Month of the Young Child


April is Month of the Young Child here at San Mateo County Libraries!

Join us at our 12 branches for family-friendly activities and musical performances aimed to please and entertain the younger children in our homes. All month long we will dance, sing, stretch, and learn along with you as we welcome the Bay Area Discovery Museum, opens a new window, the Beetlelady, opens a new window, Juan L. Sánchez, opens a new window, Leyna Roget, opens a new window, MaryLee Sunseri, opens a new window, and Mister Q, opens a new window. Musical Performances

Mister Q's Toddler Dance Party

Get ready to groove and move to Mister Q! Mister Q's Toddler Dance Party is a fun and engaging music program with nursery rhyme, songs, stories, and jokes.

1, 2, 3 Sing With MaryLee!

Join us for a musical performance meant especially for lap babies and crawlers! Award winning local musician MaryLee Sunseri will delight us with nursery songs and rhymes.

Preschool Classes & Workshops

It is never too early to engage in STEM activities with your children. Get ready to think, play and learn with the Bay Area Discovery Museum as they introduce young minds to engineering and making. Then, join the Beetlelady as she teaches us about bugs, beetles, and spiders during her playful and engaging workshops.

Bay Area Discovery Museum Workshops

Fairy Tale Engineering, Push Pull Crash, and Bridge Builders are just a few of the workshops being hosted for preschoolers that will transform them into little engineers.

The Beetlelady

Meet a variety of bugs, insects, and arthropods in preschool workshops led by entomologist Stephanie Dole. Touch bugs, sing songs, and listen to stories all about bugs!

Story Theater and Yoga Storytime

Take a break from your day and join us for these special story telling programs! Act!vated Story Theater will be bringing stories to life on stage with physical comedy, audience participation, American Sign Language and imaginative props! Or do you prefer something more low key? Leyna Roget, of Calm Mind Happy Heart, will be leading us in a series of yoga storytimes meant for all ages and skill levels.

Act!vated Story Theatre don't just tell stories, they ACTIVATE them! Do you want to be a part of the show? The first 12 kids to come a half hour before the start of the show will get a private acting lesson!

Yoga Storytime With Leyna Roget

Children and caregivers embark on a playful adventure of compassionate connections through lighthearted yoga poses, storytelling, music, singing, props and mindfulness games. All skill levels welcome!

Do you have a creative child that cannot wait to unleash their imagination? Be sure to join us during our regular arts and crafts programs!

Día de los Niños y Libros

We will wrap up the month with special activities and book giveaways in the final week of April in honor of Día de los Niños y Libros, a celebration honoring diverse children's books. Check out our Día events page for more information about any special programs or activities happening near you!

Juan L. Sánchez's Musical Fiesta

This interactive show will have children of all ages playing, dancing, clapping, giggling and singing to Juan's catchy multilingual tunes. Bring your dancing shoes and your smiles!
