What is a Library Outpost?
Our Library Outpost will be an easy-to-use, 24-hour, seven-day-a-week automated library vending hub. The first Library Outpost will open outside the Pacifica Sanchez Library, expanding access to library materials and inspiring community engagement with a gathering space to enjoy the outdoors.
It will offer a curated collection of over 300 books and media. The lending machine will allow community members to browse, select items and return materials. The Outpost also includes sustainable furniture allowing patrons a place to read and connect, have lunch or access free WiFi. Think of the Outpost as an extension of the library, available anytime.
What can I do at the Library Outpost?
- Borrow books and DVDs from the Outpost collection
- Return library items
- Pick up holds (all you have to do is choose “Pacifica-Sanchez Outpost” as your pickup location when placing the hold)
- Because the Library Outpost is like a vending machine, there are some size limitations. If you’ve asked for a hold item that doesn’t fit in the machine, we’ll contact you to let you know that you can pick it up inside the Pacifica Sanchez Library.
Do I need my library card to use the Outpost?
- You’ll need your library card and PIN code to borrow items or pick up holds
- You do not need your library card to return items
- Need a library card? Sign up online or in person at our libraries
What else is available at the Library Outpost?
- A touchscreen catalog on the west side of the Library Outpost is available to access our website. Through our website, you can search our catalog, log in to your account to place holds and see our library event listings
- Free, 24/7 WiFi access

- Bike rack

Future Outposts
To increase access to our physical and digital collections throughout the county, we are exploring locations to add several more Library Outposts. Our Library Outposts will not replace the services provided by the Bookmobile or community libraries, instead they will complement and expand services. These inviting spaces will allow residents to explore our library services beyond our physical buildings in the natural environment, closer to their homes and workplaces.

¿Qué es Outpost de la biblioteca?
El Outpost es un puesto que será una estación automatizada de la biblioteca fácil de usar las 24 horas del día, los siete días de la semana. El primer puesto automático de la biblioteca se abrirá afuera de la Biblioteca de Pacifica Sanchez, lo que mejorará el acceso a los materiales de la biblioteca y los vecinos de la comunidad tendrán un lugar de encuentro donde podrán disfrutar de los espacios al aire libre.
Tendrá una colección seleccionada de más de 300 libros y otros elementos. En la máquina expendedora los vecinos podrán buscar, seleccionar artículos y devolver materiales. El Outpost también incluye muebles sostenibles que permiten a los usuarios un lugar para leer y conectarse, almorzar o acceder a WiFi gratuito. Piensa en el Outpost como una extensión de la biblioteca, disponible en cualquier momento.

- Necesitarás tu tarjeta de la biblioteca y el Código PIN para pedir artículos o retirar reservas
- No necesitas tu tarjeta de la biblioteca para devolver artículos

Futuros Outposts de la biblioteca
