Check out this new addition to our libraries by local author Roberto Liu-Trujillo. A bilingual Spanish/English book, El Primer Corte de Mesita de Furqan/Furqan's First Flat Top introduces Furqan, an Afro Latino boy who's ready for a new aesthetic in his coiffure. The story is written and illustrated by Liu-Trujillo with Spanish translation by Cinthya Muñoz.

Furqan wants to get a fresh new haircut but he's also a little nervous. At Mr. Wallace's barbershop he sees lots of styles, some instruments he recognizes and others he doesn't, and he starts to imagine what his hair might look like. What if it doesn't look good?! Things could get funny-looking fast. No spoilers, but I will say that his new cut makes Furqan smile and turns heads at school. Way to be bold!

While there's nothing quite like holding a book in your hands or sharing it aloud, there's something equally special about getting to hear the author. Listen to Liu-Trujillo read selections from the book in his book trailer (there is even barber shop action!).

You can see more of Liu-Trujillo's art at his website.

And because we're all about the value added (and we love books!), here's another great hair-related title:
