April is Month of the Young Child at San Mateo County Libraries!
Join us at our 13 branches for family-friendly activities, free books, music and storytimes aimed to please and entertain young children and support caregivers! In addition to our regularly scheduled storytimes, Art Tables and free passes to local museums, we’ll welcome special performers for young children and parenting workshops from Parents Place. It will be a month full of celebrations for the youngest members of our families and communities! Lastly, join us the weekend of April 29–30 for el Día de los Niños, a celebration emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Celebrate el Día de los Niños weekend with The Lucky Band! We will be singing, dancing, and having fun all weekend long with special performances at our East Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay and North Fair Oaks Libraries. Lucky Diaz will also read his book Paletero Man, and there will be free copies of his book available to take home!
Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis, a married couple, create indie music sounds that are rooted in their whimsical and child-friendly imaginations. The songs on their 12 award-winning and acclaimed recordings offer an incredible range aimed at exploring all of the joyous wonder of a young person’s life. They have been featured in Billboard Magazine, People Magazine, New York Times, on Sprout TV, American Airlines, PBS and more.
Learn about the building blocks of music or show off your colorful side with classes and facepainting by local artist and musician, Cassie Levy.
Mariela’s Music Time is an educational, energetic and interactive bilingual performance for infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families. It’s filled with rhythms and multicultural sounds, along with the rich traditions of our Bay Area.
Mr. Daniel has played music for children and adults in every place he's lived --California, Miami, New York City, Mozambique and Zambia. He now plays in libraries around the Bay Area inviting children of all ages to sing and dance along to classic songs in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
Come and listen to Bay Area author, Seina Wedlick, talk about her new picture book, Naming Ceremony. It is a sweet sibling story all about making family traditions your own—perfect for fans of Alma and How She Got Her Name and Welcome to the Party. This celebratory program will include a reading of the book as well as an interactive discussion on the meaning of names.
Join us for an active program of Peter & the Wolf. In this ballet class your dancers will DART like Peter, STRETCH like grandfather, POUNCE like the cat and LUNGE like the sleek and dangerous wolf in this short class about ballet, manners and the derring-do of PETER & THE WOLF!
