Let's get to know East Palo Alto Libraries' Adina through a series of interesting questions.

Who are you and where are you from?

I am Adina, and I am from New England.  I’ve lived in California for 10 years.

What inspired you to work in libraries?
I’ve always been passionate about childhood development and early childhood literacy.  I focused on children’s librarianship in school, and began my career as a children’s librarian in Oakland.

What do you do at San Mateo County Libraries and where can we find you?

I’m the manager of the East Palo Alto Library and you can usually find me there.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

The coolest thing I’m working on is looking at EPA and its community and how the physical space of the library needs to change to keep up with our diverse needs.

What do you like most about your job?

Helping people.  And lots of access to materials.

What would you tell people about libraries that they might not know?

Discover & Go museum passes, eMedia (You can read trashy romance novels and no one can see the awful book cover!), maker spaces – so much more than books!

What are you an (un)official expert on?

Making challah

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Read (shock!), hike with friends, spend time with my family.  I pick up my guitar a few times a year.

What book, movie, and album would you take with you to a deserted island?

How long am I on this island? Book – All the Harry Potters; Movie – Moana (because I haven’t seen it yet!) album 69 Love Songs by the Magnetic Fields.

Who is your favorite fictional character of all time?

Atticus Finch (NOT IN THE NEW BOOK)

What’s your favorite movie?

Don’t have one, though my best friend and I watch The Holiday and Love Actually every year while making latkes and decorating a gingerbread house.

What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?

I play guitar badly.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Curing sick people.

What is your go-to dessert?

Crème Brulee

What are you passionate about?

Vacation!

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Visit all over Europe with my husband, see the Northern Lights, learn not to kill plants.

What’s the last book you read?

I’m currently listening to a YA book – Scarlet, #2 in the Lunar Chronicles.

In one word, what do libraries mean to you?

The World
