You’re Invited to Celebrate the Half Moon Bay Library!

What: Half Moon Bay Library 1-Year Anniversary Celebration
When: Sunday, August 18, 1:00-5:00 PM
Where: 620 Correas Street, Half Moon Bay, opens a new window

It’s been nearly one year since we opened the doors of the brand-new Half Moon Bay Library, and what a special year it has been!

We’re thrilled to invite the community to help us celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Library on Sunday, August 18 from 1:00-5:00 PM. The festivities will include live music, programs and performances, refreshments, and much more.

After two years of construction, the 22,000-square-foot facility opened in August 2018 to a large crowd of eager patrons. The Library was designed as a modern, beautiful and inviting space for learning and exploring, and serves as a community hub for the entire Coastside community.

Since opening, we’ve dazzled our guests with several new features and collection items, such as: an expansive children’s room with four interactive play installations; a collaborative makerspace with 3D printers, a laser cutter, virtual reality headsets and more; a large Community Room to accommodate more than 100 people; and an expanded collection of materials from bilingual books to Wi-Fi hotspots.

Here are some highlights:

The Library has also won five awards celebrating its unique green design and sustainable features, boosted patron registration, and has hosted countless innovative events, programs, and author visits.

Most importantly, the library has become a transformative and welcoming space for all to enjoy. The entire public is welcome to help us celebrate this fantastic first year on Sunday, August 18.

The Cypress Jazz Trio will perform at 1:00 PM and participants from the Library’s Monday Night Ukulele Jam will perform at 2:00 PM. Artist and illustrator Shawn Harris will read from his book, “Her Right Foot” and present a collage workshop at 2:00 PM. Chinese Melodrama with Randy Bales (guitar, vocals) and Dr. Lisa Chu (violin) will perform at 3:00 PM.

The Library will also offer multiple programs throughout the day. Makerspace activities will include Glowforge 3D laser printer, robots, 3D printing, and sewing. Virtual Reality games and programs will be available in the Teen Room. The Children’s Room will be full of activities, featuring a photo booth, memory cards, bubbles, bowling, blocks, and buttons.
