From Lynda to LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn acquired Lynda.com a few years ago and announced that it was re-branding as LinkedIn Learning. With this acquisition, LinkedIn Learning changed its terms of service to require all users to create a LinkedIn social media profile. As part of our commitment to patron privacy, San Mateo County Libraries agreed with the American Library Associationopens a new window, California State Libraryopens a new window, and the California Library Association’sopens a new window recommendations to discontinue our subscription to LinkedIn Learning/Lynda.

After listening to feedback from the library community, LinkedIn Learning announced that it is creating a new product for librariesopens a new window. Library cardholders will have access to the complete catalog of over 15,500 courses without needing a LinkedIn profile. Patrons will only need to provide their library card number and PIN to log in.

The new LinkedIn Learning product for libraries will be rolled out in the next few months. In the meantime, San Mateo County Libraries patrons can continue to use Lynda until the new product is ready.
