It’s summer, which means great weather and plenty of time to spend outdoors. Did you know San Mateo County Libraries can help you access local parks and explore the outdoors? We have a great slate of outdoor summer events, as well as State and County Park Passes available for adults to checkout.
About Our Park Passes
Our libraries have several different offerings for getting into nature: a County Parks Pass, State Parks Pass and a Explore Our Parks Pack.
The County Parks Pass grants you entry to 24 parks in San Mateo County, like Coyote Point, San Pedro Valley Park and Junipero Serra Park.
The State Parks Pass gets you access to parks across California, including destinations like Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, Tahoe State Recreation Area and Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Our Explore Our Parks Packs include a vehicle day-use pass for California State Parks, along with hiking essentials like a magnifying glass, binoculars, a hiking book, pamphlets on wildflowers, a flashlight, tick prevention kit and sun aid kit.
All passes and backpacks are available on a first-come, first-served basis at our libraries and can be checked out for up to three weeks.
Exploring the Outdoors
Can’t travel far? Plenty of our libraries have outdoor spaces to soak up the sunshine, or nature-themed programs planned for this summer.
- Several libraries offer Tai Chi classes in their outdoor spaces.
- Check out library events in a new location like Moss Beach or San Pedro Valley Park.
- Have some fun in the sun at Joel Davis Park.
- You can even join a gardening event or a cooking demo to learn about fresh produce and nutrition.
All of these events would make a great entry in your My Summer Adventure journal, so what are you waiting for? Let’s explore!
