April has always been my favorite month of the year—not only because it's my birthday month, but also because it's spring! There are flowers blossoming everywhere and a freshness in the air. San Mateo County Libraries has many fun programs lined up this month! 

Comic Arts Fest ✏️

Peninsula Libraries Comic Arts Fest is returning in April 2025! We’re celebrating the importance of comics as literature in a visual art form and enabling aspiring artists and readers of all ages through author visits, workshops and comics-related programs.

SWANA Heritage Month 💙

We're celebrating Southwest Asian and North African Heritage Month with special programming all month long, including special author talks, musical events and more!

Cooking Demo with Chef Ava Marie Romero 🍳

We're excited to host a series of in-person cooking demos with Chef Ava Marie Romero. Learn new culinary skills from Chef Ava, author of 35 Years as an Autistic Celebrity Chef in the Bay Area: Stories From My Life in the Disability Food Community, opens a new window. These events will include stories from Ava's life and book, as well as a book signing.

Meet Christina De Witte and Mallika Kauppinen, Creators of Noodles, Rice & Everything Spice 🍜

On Saturday, April 19 at 11:00 AM, we're thrilled to virtually welcome Christina De Witte and Mallika Kauppinen, as they discuss their co-created graphic novel cookbook Noodles, Rice, and Everything Spice! Combining easy-to-follow comic book panels with pops of vibrant food photography, Noodles, Rice & Everything Spice celebrates the warm, welcoming spirit of Thailand.

Live Music 🎻

Bring your friends and family to our live music performances, opens a new window in April. We're so excited to host Violinist Mads Tolling, Faisal Zedan for Pan-Arabic Pecussion and The Sampaguitas for Philippine Folk Songs.

Poetry Celebration 🖋️

Belmont's annual poetry contest returns! Join us as we celebrate the winners of this year's Belmont Poetry Contest, hosted with the Belmont Poet Laureate Monica Korde. Poets of all ages are welcome and encouraged to share their talents with the community! All San Mateo County residents can participate in the poetry contest—submissions are due April 3.
