SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Libraries is delighted to announce an expansion of hours beginning Sunday, March 6. This marks a return to 7-day-a-week service for most locations, meaning more accessible, equitable library hours for community members to enjoy. With new increased hours, the libraries look forward to enhancing community connections and expanding services in 2022.

“This is an exciting next step for our libraries to bring even more transformative experiences and boundless opportunities to those we serve in the County,” said Library JPA Governing Board Chair and Millbrae Councilmember Reuben Holober. “Our libraries have provided exceptional resources and unwavering support during these challenging times, and I look forward to seeing the innovative, community centered impact they will continue to bring to 2022.”

With thoughtful consideration of San Mateo County Libraries’ reopening plan, the Governing Board approved the following 7-day-a-week schedule for most locations.

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10 AM-8 PM
  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM-5 PM

Libraries include: Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, North Fair Oaks, Pacifica Sharp Park, San Carlos and Woodside. Atherton will follow the same schedule when the new library is opened this spring.

Expanded evening and weekend hours provide more in-person opportunities for people to seek resources and support with job hunting, schoolwork, literacy, STEAM programs, access to the internet and technology.

“We know how much extended hours mean to someone in need of access to resources after the school and workday and how excited our families are to return to their routine of a Sunday visit to the library,” San Mateo County Libraries Director Anne-Marie Despain said. “We are thrilled to welcome even more of our community back and respond to the need for greater access to our libraries.”

Special hours for Pacifica Sanchez Library and Portola Valley Library are listed below. Each of these libraries are located less than 5 miles away from a San Mateo County Libraries location that will serve the community with the expanded 7-day-a-week schedule.

Pacifica Sanchez Library:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays 12 PM-5 PM
  • Saturdays 11 AM-5 PM

Portola Valley Library:

  • Monday and Tuesday 10 AM- 8 PM
  • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 AM- 5 PM
