Summer Learning doesn’t just apply to children and teens! Adults can sharpen their skills over the summer (or really any season) with free online resources through San Mateo County Libraries. To unlock these resources, all you need is your San Mateo County Libraries card beginning with “29041.”
Lynda.com provides a large library of streaming online instructional videos that range from business to technology to creative skills. Want to learn photography before your summer vacations? Now’s your chance! Or perhaps you’d like to design a website for a side project? Lynda.com has a whole learning track for that!
You can take an unlimited number of courses with 24/7 access on your computer or smartphone so you can learn at your own pace. These courses are taught by accomplished teachers and industry experts. Lynda.com and San Mateo County Libraries makes it easy to fit learning into your life, no matter what your schedule is.

Don’t want to commit to a full course? There are other ways to incorporate learning into your summer! You can learn a new language at your own pace with Mango Languages. There are 18 languages to choose from, including Pirate, which might come in handy if you’re vacationing somewhere coastal.

Adults can also participate in the Summer Learning Challenge! Visit summerlearners.org to create your account and start earning badges.
Over the course of the summer, adults must read 5 books and do 6 fun, new activities to complete the challenge. Here's how it works:
- 1 book read = 100 points
- 1 activity = 100 points
- Reach 1100 points and you've completed the challenge.
