It seemed to take forever to potty train my daughter.
Every time I would get together with a relative I would always get asked, "How's the potty training?" Sometimes I had a funny story to tell them, like the time she pooped on my library school homework, and other times I would recount all the ways I would attempt to bribe my daughter (M&Ms, raisins, stickers, et cetera) just to get her to sit on the potty for practice. From about 12 - 24 months, none of these tactics worked and I would lament to my friends (with already potty trained children) that Olivia would be in diapers forever. They would always say to me, "Everyone potty trains at their own pace. She isn't going to college in diapers."
And they were right! A few months after she turned two, a light switched on in her brain and she decided seemingly over night that she was done with diapers and she would now begin to use the potty like a big girl. No bribery or sticker chart needed. She was just ready. It also helped that she started going to daycare/preschool during that time and she wanted to be just like all the other "big kids" at school.
So, for all those parents and caregivers out there who are in the thick of potty training, I hope you find some humor in these potty training picture books. I also hope your little ones find some much needed inspiration to relieve themselves on a very special "big kid" porcelain throne of their own.
