What is a Read-A-Thon?

A Read-A-Thon is an event to encourage reading and listening to books. Students ask friends and family for pledges and keep track of the time they spend reading. Read-A-Thon participants can read anything they choose, but one area of focus will be books that celebrate the diversity of the United States and introduce ideas around social justice and anti-racism.

We are proud to support literacy efforts like these throughout San Mateo County schools. During the Read-A-Thon, we will put together Grab and Go Bundles of books celebrating the theme of diversity which will be available at the San Carlos Library, and our staff will offer special storytimes for students of San Carlos Public Schools.

Are you a teacher interested in putting on a Read-A-Thon? We'd love to help! Visit our Teacher and Student Resources page or get in touch, opens a new window with us to learn more about the many ways we're supporting education in San Mateo County.
