April in Motion: Move More, Feel More!

Written by: Sandy N.

Did you know that April marks National Move More Month? National Move More Month was created by the American Heart Association in 2018, encouraging individuals to be active and incorporate movement into their daily routines. The initiative aims to motivate individuals to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives, encouraging healthier routines that go beyond just one day, leading to lasting lifestyle changes. Whether it’s going on a walk, a run, joining a new gym class or any other fun way to get your blood flowing, making healthy changes will keep us healthy and lead to better daily habits. Not only that, but being active can help boost mental well-being, reduce stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression. This month, try to make it a goal to take at least 10,000 steps every day or hit 30 minutes of exercise. It may be tough, but San Mateo County Libraries can help you achieve your goals!

Looking for some ways you can be active? Here are some fun tips you can try to incorporate fitness:

  • Make active family game nights. Play games such as Twister or Pictionary to get you moving. Visit your nearest library to see what games they have in store for you! You can also browse online to see a wider selection of what games are available.
  • Make the most of your TV time by incorporating fitness. Try walking in place, lifting weights or jogging on a treadmill while watching TV. Playing a show or movie as you try to get some physical activity isn’t always a bad thing, especially when you find newly released shows with us! Browse through our new movies and TV shows to find something to watch as you incorporate fitness into your routine.
  • Play with pets. Explore a new hiking trail to get active with your pet. San Mateo County Libraries has many great books on hiking trails. You can also check out a county park pass or state park pass to explore and get active!
