The "Poetry Is Family" is a continuation of the "Poetry Is" project and campaign, designed by Caroline Goodwin in partnership with the San Mateo County Library. Its goal has been to increase awareness of San Mateo County's rich diversity of people, place and neighborhoods through the power of the spoken word and place-themed poetry.
Many of the winning poems will be read by their authors at the June 11th celebration. Hundreds of poems were judged blindly (without a name attached to the poem) by a panel of San Mateo County working poets.
The "Poetry Is" campaign has elevated interest in poetry and the literary arts into the fabric of San Mateo County.
