Read to a Therapy Dog at the Library

April is Therapy Dog Appreciation Month! All throughout April, we celebrate our paw-some canine friends.

Therapy Dogs at the Library

Reading aloud can be daunting and stressful for children and readers of all ages. In practicing, the reader may feel that they are being judged for the quality of their reading. Therapy dogs serve as non-judgmental listeners for people experiencing anxiety of this nature.

San Mateo County Libraries partners with the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, opens a new window to help facilitate reading experiences between therapy dogs and young readers in our Paws for Tales program! You can reserve a ten-minute session with a therapy dog for your child on our Events Calendar.

Check out these dog books, they make our tails waggy!
