Netflix dropped the Stranger Things season three trailer on March 20th and I immediately binge-watched the first two seasons over that entire weekend. Although I had seen season one a few times, during this binge-watch I realized this was my first time rewatching season two since it was released. I was surprised how little I remembered about the plot, except for that mid-season Eleven takes that odd field trip out of Hawkins. That plotline frustrated me so deeply because all I wanted was for her and Mike to be on screen together.
I'm glad I re-watched the series because I definitely appreciated season two a lot better during this second viewing. It sets up the plot for season three quite seamlessly by staging a monster lurking in the shadows, the potential for other children like Eleven, as well as pushing the overall mystery of Hawkins Lab. There is also the internal drama happening in the lives of the characters as the children grow into their teens and deal with hormones, girls, and what it means to be loyal to your friends during challenging times. Then there are the adults of Hawkins, such as Joyce Byers and Chief Hopper whose onscreen time is constantly plagued with trying to keep the children in their care alive and safe despite overwhelming dangerous circumstances.
In short, the show has a lot going for it! It has a little bit of comedy, drama, sci-fi, action, and romance. Not to mention, the soundtrack is absolutely killer! The show has the best 80's rock and pop songs sprinkled throughout.
