Spicy Fundraiser for New Library

They Go Way Back!

If you look in the book Brisbane by Dolores Gomez you will find a peculiar picture of Mr. Raphael Mesa, the current owner of Melissa's Taqueria, opens a new window. We featured him in a recent Brisbane Library Instagram, opens a new window post with the tag "#ThrowbackThrusday." Mr. Mesa does fundraisers for the Lions Club, opens a new window, Public Schools and other Brisbane causes, so when he approached me a few weeks ago to do a fundraiser for the new Brisbane Library, I jumped at the possibility.

The Goal

This fine establishment sits on Visitacion Avenue directly across from where the new Brisbane Library is to be built early in the summer of 2018. Mr. Mesas has graciously agreed to donate to the Friends of the Brisbane Library (FOBL) 30% of all the proceeds from the sales on Thursday, April 6, 2017.  These funds will go towards the $100,000 fundraising goal the City of Brisbane, opens a new window has asked the Friends of the Brisbane Library to help finance for the New Library. So please help support a great cause by enjoying some delicious food from a fine Mexican restaurant.

Some Tips

  • Parking is not an issue, there is plenty of 2 hour free parking up and down Visitacion Ave.
  • If you're looking for dine-in, know that there are only 12 tables that sit parties of 4 guests comfortably. So if you're coming for lunch, put your order in ahead of time by calling (415) 656-1369.
  • Having been a faithful customer for the past 2 years, I think I've tried everything on the menu. The "chorizo breakfast burrito" is at the top of my list and the "carnita's quesadilla" is a close second. However, if you are a vegetarian the "chile relleno" is amazing and their combo plates make for a hardy dinner choice.
  • The "horchata" is also fresh and served along with complimentary chips and 2 salsas (one spicy and one "pico de gallo," included on all takeout orders as well).

Finally, don't forget to tip and bring you appetite along! I look forward to seeing many of you this week at Melissa's. You'll also be able to pick up a free book or cool SMCL swag.
