November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor the diverse cultures, histories and contributions of Native peoples across the United States.
At San Mateo County Libraries, our mission is to strengthen our communities by creating an inclusive sense of place and an environment of learning. One way we can seek to meet that mission is by encouraging others to learn about and honor Native American people, their ancestors, elders and communities. We encourage our community to reflect on the deep connections Native peoples have to the land and how their wisdom continues to shape our understanding of it today.
Learn About Native American Heritage
Native American heritage is not confined to the past—it continues to shape and influence the present. As active stewards of the environment, Indigenous peoples are leaders in arts and culture, and contributors to scientific innovation.
Throughout this month, we will be featuring a variety of special programs to honor Native American Heritage Month and deepen our commitment to providing opportunities for our communities to actively learn and foster connections. To learn more, please view our Native American Heritage Month events.
