Did you know that over 85,000 adults in San Mateo County struggle with reading and writing in English? Join us at one of our upcoming volunteer information sessions and learn how you can help an adult learner achieve life-changing goals through the power of literacy and language.
At San Mateo County Libraries, we connect adult learners with caring community volunteers to provide free, one-on-one tutoring support. Tutors and learners work together toward meaningful goals, like preparing for a new job, passing a test or simply building confidence in everyday conversations. Many tutors have volunteered with us for years, supporting multiple learners through countless personal and professional milestones.
Join Us at a Volunteer Information Session
Want to learn more? At our volunteer information sessions, you'll learn more and gain insight into the experience of volunteering before committing. We’ll share inspiring stories from the program and answer your questions about the application and training process. Plus, you’ll have the chance to enjoy refreshments at one of our 13 beautiful library locations across San Mateo County and meet like-minded neighbors who share your interest in helping others.
No experience? No problem! We'll provide free and extensive training, resources and support to all volunteers accepted into the program. If you’re at least 18 years of age, have a caring heart and are enthusiastic about learning, we’d love to tell you more about how to get involved.
Register today for an upcoming volunteer information session near you!
