Join Us for Juneteenth Celebrations!

Juneteenth, opens a new window only became an official federal holiday in 2021, opens a new window, but it has a long history, opens a new window. It commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned from the Union Army that the Civil War had ended, and they were free, two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day or Emancipation Day, it is a symbolic day of freedom and celebration for the Black community.

Join us for special events and programs commemorating Juneteenth throughout the month. With events ranging from music to art to poetry, there are ways for everyone to join us for Juneteenth celebrations!
