What is Banned Books Week?
Banned Books Week, opens a new window is an annual event that takes place during the last week of September. This week-long event is important because it reminds us that we all have the freedom to read anything we choose and exercise our First Amendment right. Banned Books Week highlights the importance of free and open access to information for all. It is a good reminder that all banned books are important pieces of literature that allow us to experience different points of view.
Why Are Books Banned?
Books are usually banned because they cover a controversial topic, have offensive language or religious language, and/or are not considered age-appropriate.
