More than just a colorful spectacle, Holi is a deeply significant festival in Hindu tradition, marking the arrival of spring, a time of renewal and new beginnings. It's a time to forgive and forget, let go of the past and strengthen social bonds. The most iconic aspect of Holi is undoubtedly the playful throwing of colored powder, gulal. This tradition stems from the legend of Prahlada and Holika, and symbolizes the victory of good over evil, a central theme of Holi.
Celebrate Holi at the Library
The throwing of colors is a symbolic gesture of breaking down social barriers and bringing people together in the spirit of unity and joy. The vibrant colors represent different aspects of life and nature, creating a beautiful and harmonious spectacle.
- The Foster City Library will be hosting a colorful sand art craft in celebration of Holi during their Kids Culture Club program on Thursday, March 6, from 3:30-4:30 PM.
- Celebrate Holi with Indian Dance presented by Pagrav Dance Studio, on Saturday, March 8, from 1:30-2:30 PM, at the Belmont Library, followed by color throwing outside at 3:30 PM.
