For many families in Half Moon Bay, summertime officially begins with a José-Luis Orozco, opens a new window concert. For years, Orozco, a bilingual children’s author, educator, and musician, has been visiting the Coastside to present his highly interactive Latin American musical program. He creates a fun and festive atmosphere that encourages families to sing, clap, and dance together. His annual visits draw hundreds of people.
Children particularly benefit from musical experiences like this -- study after study shows that music and singing are key components in building a baby’s brain. Children who listen to music at an early age gain a sense of rhythm, which helps them detect patterns in speech.
Orozco, an early childhood educator, devotes himself to making quality music young children and families will want to listen to all the time. His latest album, ¡COME BIEN! ¡EAT RIGHT! received the Parents Choice Gold Award in Music this past spring. His classic album, Diez deditos, is one of the most popular items in the Half Moon Bay Library collection.
This year, Mr. Orozco will perform on Friday, June 17 at 7:00 pm at the Senior Coastsiders building. People of all ages are invited to attend and help us celebrate the start of summer.
