Celebrate Diwali with San Mateo County Libraries

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important festivals in Hinduism. It's celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm by millions of people around the world, including many people in San Mateo County.

Diwali marks the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. In most of India, Diwali is a five-day celebration that peaks on the third day with its biggest celebrations. Elsewhere, in places like the United States, only one main day is usually celebrated—and this year it falls on October 31st.

Diwali with the Library

Diwali is a time for family, friends and community to come together and celebrate the spirit of hope, joy and togetherness. It's a reminder of the importance of overcoming challenges and embracing the light in our lives.

San Mateo County Libraries is proud to celebrate Diwali with our community. This year, we invite you to join us for special events and programs that will highlight the cultural significance of this joyous festival. There will be fun activities, like henna hand art, diya making and celebrations featuring traditional dancing and musical performances.
