August is Read a Romance Month!

As the season winds down, why not add some romance novels to your summer reading list? Read a Romance Month (RARM) is a fun way to check out a new-to-you (or not!) genre and find some fresh favorite authors.

Founded and organized by romance book reviewer and advocate Bobbi Dumas, opens a new window, RARM highlights authors and books from a wide range of publishers and genres. The RARM blog, opens a new window spotlights three authors each day of August who share their thoughts on why readers and writers love romance. Kierney Scott, opens a new window, Adriana Anders, and Robinne Lee are just a few of the authors who have been featured so far in August.

Romance eBooks at SMCL

What better way to kick off RARM than by checking out San Mateo County’s collection of romance books? Not only does your local branch have physical copies of romance novels, but we also have a large collection of romance e-books. According to Nielsen BookScan/PubTrack Digital 2015, opens a new window, eBooks make up 61% of romance fiction sales. In fact, some popular romance novels are only available in eBook format.

San Francisco’s own Danielle Steel is quite possibly the most famous romance novelist ever. The Apartment is set in New York City – a loft in Hell’s Kitchen specifically – and follows four young female roommates as they face challenges in life and love.

Beth Prudhomme is finally moving away from her conservative parents in Chicago to take control of her life. In her new city of Portland, she meets Sam, a tattooed mechanic who is essentially her parents’ worst nightmare.

Cocoa Beach
My pick for RARM is Cocoa Beach by Beatriz Williams, opens a new window, one of first authors featured for RARM 2017. In this historical fiction/romance/mystery, Virginia Fortescue meets a dashing army captain on the battlefields of World War I France and marries him. She ends up back on the other side of Atlantic after dark secrets ruin their marriage. Five years later and widowed, Virginia ends up in Cocoa Beach, FL where she discovers even more danger.
