SAN MATEO, CA — Library patrons can now access in-library services! On April 22, San Mateo County Libraries reopened its doors to a line of library enthusiasts eager to be welcomed back inside.

“It's been incredible to witness just how many people are streaming into the libraries,” said Reuben Holober, Millbrae Councilmember and Chair of the Library JPA Governing Board. "Libraries are community gems and serve as cornerstones for families, neighbors, and community members to explore, connect and learn together.”

Modified in-library, or Express Service, is an exciting next step towards reinstituting regular library offerings and access. Another community need the library system is addressing is helping to prepare children for the upcoming school year. To accelerate youth learning gains after a challenging year of distance learning, San Mateo County Libraries is hosting summer camps inside most libraries Monday - Wednesday from June 14 through July 14. During in-library camp days, libraries will be serving the public via Curbside Walk-up Service.

In-library Express Service will be available at most locations Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Express Services include in-library browsing, Wi-Fi access, and computer and printer access. In-library hours will be expanded in early August.

“It has been incredible to see the success we have had during our swift transition to offering curbside and virtual services, but nothing beats welcoming our communities back inside their beloved libraries,” said Anne-Marie Despain, Library Director. “On top of that, knowing that we are prioritizing county youth learning this summer, is something we are all very proud of.”

Library staff have been working hard to create an in-library experience that is not only welcoming, but safe for all to enjoy. While utilizing in-library services, visitors will continue to be required to wear masks and social distance. Additionally, the libraries will continue to offer an expanding array of online resources, digital materials, and an exciting lineup of popular virtual programs and events for all ages.
