*Beep beep* Our mobile makerspace is here!
The new Makermobile is a zero-emission vehicle built to deliver maker programs beyond our libraries.
It's designed to “unfold” at each new destination, releasing three movable carts that will roll out and station around the vehicle transforming the surrounding location into a bustling pop-up makerspace. Equipped with built-in display cabinets, a video monitor for maker inspiration and awnings for shade protection, the vehicle invites visitors to stop and explore.
We’re kicking off the Makermobile launch with a special ribbon cutting celebration, and you’re invited.

Join us for live music, refreshments, lots of maker activities, and an evening of fun and discovery.
We’ll be celebrating next to the site of the future new East Palo Alto Library.
We’ll have programs for all ages and abilities – learn from our staff or choose a self-guided activity!
- Laser cut keychains and personalize them with beads
- 3D print Makermobile celebration swag or design something yourself with Tinkercad!
- Conduct electric experiments that showcase the science of switches, resistance, motors and more!
- Experience the science of light through art while experimenting with our Cannon 90D DSLR cameras.
About the Makermobile
The Makermobile is supported by a generous grant from Gilead Sciences.
The all-electric vehicle itself and all of the equipment on board are powered by the Makermobile's three rechargeable batteries. This means the Makermobile is zero-emission, as it produces no exhaust. It is estimated that the Makermobile will get approximately 110 miles per charge, allowing us to reach our more distant and rural communities.
Makermobile carts will be outfitted with tech including a Glowforge Pro laser cutter, an Ultimaker S3 3D printer, laptops, iPads, DSLR cameras, coding robots, music-making elements and more.
The Makermobile allows us to bring a pop-up makerspace to all of our libraries, plus destinations like schools, parks and other public spaces.
San Mateo County Libraries launched a Makerspace Master Plan in 2017, setting a roadmap to ignite growth, nurture curiosity and create learning experiences for communities of all backgrounds, ages and abilities. Makerspaces are located at Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane and Half Moon Bay libraries, with plans to build additional makerspaces at Foster City, Millbrae and San Carlos in the near future. All 13 of our libraries have 3D printers.
A free, round trip shuttle service will be provided from the East Palo Alto Library to EPACENTER for the Makermobile launch event! The shuttle pick up will take place starting at 3:30 PM in the East Palo Alto Library parking lot and will drop people off on the corner of Bay Road and Pulgas Avenue outside the EPACENTER. The shuttle will make a round trip roughly every 20 minutes. To catch a free ride back to the Library, please wait for the shuttle at the same EPACENTER drop off location. The last shuttle back to the Library will take place at 7:00 PM.

Sobre el Makermobile
