May the Fourth Be With You (And the Fifth, Too!)  Celebrate Star Wars at San Mateo County Libraries

Written by Neuf N. at Foster City Library

A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away… San Mateo County Libraries became the perfect place for Star Wars fans of all ages!

Join us this May to celebrate the force with us: May 4 is May the Fourth (Star Wars Day), and May 5 is Revenge of the Fifth, a shout-out to the dark side. Whether you're a young Padawan, a Jedi Master or just love droids and lightsabers—there’s something for everyone at the library!

Discover Star Wars Books and More

Star Wars isn't just in movies—it's in lots of awesome books, too!

  • For Kids: Check out fun picture books with Yoda, R2-D2 and more.
  • For Teens & Adults: Try cool graphic novels or behind-the-scenes books about the movies.
  • For Curious Minds: Learn how Star Wars connects to science, space, mythology and even real physics!

Watch Movies and Play Games

Want to rewatch your favorite Star Wars movies? We’ve got DVDs and Blu-ray discs you can borrow or select titles stream online! Have your own movie night at home with popcorn, friends and a galaxy full of adventure.

Feeling like a Jedi in training? We also have Star Wars video games for systems like Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. Fly an X-wing, build a droid or battle the Empire—your choice!

Learn and Create Like a Jedi

Being a Jedi is more than lightsaber battles, it's about learning, focus and creativity too. The library has great tools to help you train:

  • Relax with Calm: Get Calm for free to listen to peaceful music, stories and meditations to help you chill like Yoda.
  • Get Crafty with Creativebug: Make your own Star Wars crafts, costumes and fun decorations.
  • Learn a New Language with Pronunciator: Try speaking another language—maybe not Wookiee yet, but lots of others!

This May, the library is the place to be for Star Wars fun, learning and adventure. Whether you follow the light side or the dark, everyone’s welcome!

So grab your lightsaber, wear your Jedi (or Sith!) costume and head to your nearest San Mateo County Libraries location.
