Learn About Plastic Free July

Written by Isa R and Sandy N at Half Moon Bay

The month of July is mainly known for Independence Day in the United States, but did you know that it is also known as “Plastic Free July”?  The movement was started in Western Australia in 2011 by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz and a small group of people in the local government. Since then, Plastic Free July has grown into an international movement across 190 countries with more than 100 million participants in 2024! The goal of Plastic Free July is to create awareness and cut down consumption of single use plastics in our everyday lives.
