Head to Discover & Go to access museum passes with a library card beginning with 29041 or 29731. If you have a card that starts with a number besides 29041 or 29731, make sure to use the drop-down menu and pick the number that matches the first five numbers on your card to access your library’s Discover & Go portal!
Family Museums
Many of the museums available are ideal for families with young children. Check out the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces, which feature daily programs created with joyful play in mind. Sacramento Children's Museum also focuses on "learn-by-doing" and teaches kids about math, science and art. Both museums are designed to engage children between the ages of six months to eight years.
STEM Attractions
Looking for something geared toward science and technology enthusiasts? Chabot Space & Science Center houses huge research-quality telescopes, and their goal is to educate students of all ages about science and astronomy. San Jose’s The Tech Interactive has hands-on activities, experimental labs and exhibits that encourage guests to use their creativity, curiosity and compassion. Also, for all the animal lovers out there: the Marine Mammal Center is the world's largest marine mammal hospital. Upon visiting you learn how you can help to protect the ocean from harm and can even observe veterinarians helping marine animals recover so that they can be released back into the wild.
Nature Attractions
Enjoy the arrival of spring at some of the most beautiful nature attractions in the Bay Area. For plant lovers, Filoli is home to a beautiful historic home, gardens and natural trails. CuriOdyssey and Lindsay Wildlife Experience provide guests with a chance to learn more about Bay Area nature and see native Californian animals. CuriOdyssey’s exciting hands-on science exhibitions and native California animal zoo are fun for the whole family while Lindsay Wildlife Experience has a hands-on discovery room, art exhibits and even live animal feeding and training demonstrations.
Fine Art Museums
Discover & Go offers tickets to many traditional fine art museums. The Bedford Gallery exhibits historic, modern and contemporary art, while the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art features exhibitions and works by Bay Area artists in Napa Valley’s famed Carneros region. American paintings, sculptures and decorative arts from the 1600s to modern day as well as art from all over the world can be found at the de Young Museum. If you miss out on tickets through Discover & Go, the de Young and Legion of Honor both offer free general admission, opens a new window every Saturday to all Bay Area residents!
History Museums
There are plenty of fun destinations for those looking to learn more about the history of California. The San Mateo County History Museum hosts events for both adults and families and follows county history from the culture of the Ohlone Indians to the development of the ranchos and the Victorian era with its grand estates. If you’re up to travelling outside the county, there are some great attractions available all over California. Visit the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum, the Shadelands Ranch Museum, the Richmond Museum of History and Culture or Dana Adobe & Cultural Center to learn more about our state’s history.
