Join us to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights! This year Diwali falls on Sunday, October 27 and we have special events planned for all ages to celebrate. We are even trying some new activities!
Children can make paper circuit light-up cards to send to loved ones. This fun STEAM activity combines creativity, art, and learning. Teens and tweens can also make paper circuit cards but go a step further by designing custom mapping paths, using copper tape, to make their design light up. This special craft requires scientific thinking and ingenuity.
Kids can also try some Bollywood inspired dance moves by participating in Kids Bolly Jam! Instructor Priyanka Shinde will lead this fun, participatory dance class to get kids moving and active. If participating in dance isn’t your thing, families of all ages can attend a Diwali celebration with rangoli and a performance from Pagrav Dance Studio, opens a new window at the Belmont Library on Sunday, November 10, from 1-4 pm.
Lastly, adults and teenagers can try applying some decorative henna on their bodies. Swati, a talented henna artist, will be available at many of our branches to apply these intricate and beautiful designs.
We hope you’ll celebrate the triumph of light over darkness with us at our libraries!
