Celebrate Earth Month at San Mateo County Libraries

Written by Rachel E. and Claire H. at the Pacifica Libraries

Spring is finally here! It's time to celebrate the incredible rebirth that happens each year after the long, cold winter months. The earth sustains and surprises us, and we have a responsibility to care for it in return. On April 22, we celebrate Earth Day, but April itself is Earth Month! Discover these fun Earth Month offerings happening at San Mateo County Libraries

EarthCapades: Earth Day Every Day

EarthCapades' unique and memorable performance blends juggling, music, magic and storytelling to inspire environmental awareness and respect for Planet Earth. EarthCapades dynamically demonstrates that Every Day is Earth Day and protecting the planet can be FUN! Performances are great for all ages and don't require registration.

Eco-tainment

Join master juggler, Doug Nolan for Eco-tainment, a thrilling stage show packed with juggling, magic, comedy and audience participation! In celebration of Earth Day, join us for an interactive and entertaining multi-media experience sharing messages on reducing waste (the four Rs), water conservation and ways to protect our natural resources!

Science from Scientists

Science from Scientists (SciSci) is an award-winning, national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission to teach and inspire the next generation to identify and solve real-world problems by improving STEM literacy. We'll be hosting events with SciSci all throughout April!

Explore Oil Spills and Their Effects

Dive into the issues that surround an oil spill and be a part of the solution! Learn about the methods environmental engineers use to clean up our ocean and then test out the methods for yourself with our model. Things may get a little bit messy, but that’s part of the fun!

Sustainability: Fishing for Answers

Does anyone own the fish in the ocean? How do we make sure there is enough to go around? Think through these questions with Science from Scientists and use an interactive fishing game to explore the concepts of sustainability and the tragedy of the commons.
