We are thrilled to invite families, community members and partners to celebrate the grand opening of our new Atherton Library Children’s Garden. Set under a linear grove of towering Redwood trees on the west side of Atherton Library, the new garden welcomes all ages and abilities to explore, gather, learn and dream.
Join us as we celebrate this exciting addition to our community and discover a special outdoor space designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong connection to nature.
Ribbon Cutting Celebration:

Location: Town of Atherton Civic Court Plaza
A Space to Play, Learn and Gather Outdoors
The 6,200 square-foot garden features a charming willow hut, an accessible tree house, a winding branch tunnel and a climbing boulder that encourages families to engage with the natural world through adventure and hands-on exploration.
This unique nature-based environment offers opportunities to:
- Explore and learn through outdoor play
- Build confidence, balance and problem-solving skills
- Spark creativity and imagination
- Connect with nature in meaningful and memorable ways

Parking
Parking at the Atherton Library may be limited. We highly encourage walking, biking or carpooling to the event. Additional parking is also available at Holbrook-Palmer Park, located at 150 Watkins Ave, Atherton, CA 94027, about a half mile from the library.
Day of Remarks
The celebration will kick off with brief remarks from Mayor Stacy Holland and Vice Mayor and Library JPA Governing Board Chair Rick DeGolia and a ribbon cutting to officially welcome the community to the new space.
After the ceremony, explore the garden and stop by the makerspace for live demos and exciting programming including:
- Nature-inspired play for all ages
- Garden themed musical storytime
- Hands-on maker activities for everyone
