What Is a Book Bike?

Think of a book bike as a mini mobile library on three wheels. The wheels are essential; we ride out with books, WiFi and programs, on a mission to spread the love of reading, learning and literacy. At San Mateo County Libraries, we have a fleet of six book bikes that staff use to bring the library to you!

Where Can I Find a Book Bike?

I'm so glad you asked! Our book bikes will be out en masse for Bicycle Sunday, August 13 from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Look for us - you can't miss us - and say hello. We will have cool treats to beat the heat, plus giveaway books for the kiddos, so don't be shy!

Bicycle Sunday has been described as one of the Bay Area's "best ideas" by SF Chronicle columnist Tom Stienstra. Cañada Road closes to cars for Bicycle Sunday between Filoli and Highway 92. All ages are welcome to pedal, run or walk and enjoy fresh air, sunshine and beautiful vistas.

Parking is free at both Cañada Road and Pulgas Ridge.

When Will I See You Again?

Look for us at local parks, festivals and other special events. We also visit schools and residential centers, and are always looking for opportunities to ride our book bikes to an event near you!
