Connection On The Go: Placing Holds on Laptops and Hotspots

Written by Cary M., Brisbane Library

Did you know that you can now place San Mateo County Libraries’ circulating WiFi Hotspots, Chromebooks or WiFi Hotspot Combos on hold? There’s no need to go on a treasure hunt for these popular resources—just place a hold through our online catalog or by calling Customer Care at 1-833-YES-SMCL, and we’ll send the item to your preferred library location as soon as it’s available!

Our Chromebooks run on Chrome OS, Google’s operating system. Users can log into the machine using their Google account, and the computers use primarily web-based applications, like Google Sheets and Docs.

Our WiFi Hotspot Combos consist of a Dell laptop and a Verizon hotspot, bundled together for your convenience! The laptops have Microsoft Office applications installed, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

We also offer hotspots from two providers, T-Mobile and Verizon. Check their coverage maps (T-Mobile, opens a new window, Verizon, opens a new window) to see which will work best for your area!

Of course, our Library of Things isn’t limited to just laptops and hotspots—we offer resources for indoor and outdoor recreation, health and more! Most of our Library of Things items are In Luck, so check in with library staff the next time you stop in and see what’s available!
