Walk-up Services
You’re invited to walk up anytime during Curbside Pickup hours and speak with a staff member to arrange a pickup of holds or a curated range of other items from our collection, including preselected book bundles, sewing machines (select locations only), bicycles (Belmont Library only), and more! No appointment is necessary but wait times will vary based on demand.
Make a Curbside Pickup Appointment
For the fastest pickup and a contactless experience, you can still schedule an appointment below. Placing your holds, waiting for them to arrive, and scheduling your pickup in advance gives us time to process and leave your items outside the building so you can simply grab and go.
Curbside Services are available at all 13 of our community libraries Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM - 4 PM, except during holiday closures.

Steps to Place a Hold/Pick Up
1.) Place Hold
Browse smcl.org (or the SMCL mobile app) and place your item(s) on hold.
Then, you’ll receive an email notification that your item(s) is/are available to be picked up using our Walk-up Service or you can schedule an appointment.
Bookmobile customers, please select one of our library branch locations for your Curbside Pickup.
2.) Walk-up or Appointment
After you receive your email confirmation that your item(s) on hold is/are ready, use our Walk-up Service or appointment booking system for your pickup.
If using our Walk-Up Service, skip to step 3. If booking an appointment, schedule a time for your pickup below. Once scheduled, you’ll receive an email confirming the date, time, and location-specific pickup information.
3.) Pick Up
Lastly, use our Walk-up Service or arrive during your scheduled appointment, pick up your item(s) on hold, and enjoy!
Information to Know
Your item(s) will be checked out to you in advance. Staff will place your item(s) on our curbside table for you to pick up when you arrive. Your items will be labeled by the last name, first initial, and last 4 digits of your phone number.
Employees and customers will be following social distancing, using face coverings, and following public health recommendations during pickup. All returned items will be held in quarantine for 96 hours. Please note that held items may not be available as soon as they previously were due to increased safety procedures.

Simply submit your print job using one of the three options below, schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment, and arrive at your appointment time to pick it up.

1.) Submit Your Print Job
Option 1: Web Printing
Use our web printing service to send print jobs to a printer at one of our community libraries.
Make sure to choose the same location when selecting your scheduled pickup location.
Option 2: Mobile Printing
Use our PrinterOn app that is available from the iOS, opens a new window or Android, opens a new window App Store.
- Open the app and tap No Printer Selected
- Tap on Location from the Select Printer option
- Enter the library nearest you or use the map for location
Make sure to choose the same location when selecting your scheduled pickup location. - Select the printer of your choice
- From the main menu select type of print job
Option 3: Email Printing
Use our email printing service to email print jobs to a printer at one of our community libraries.
Make sure to choose the same location when selecting your scheduled pickup location.
2.) Schedule Appointment
After submitting your print job with one of the above options, use our appointment booking system below to schedule a time for your pickup.
You’ll receive an email confirming the date, time, and location-specific pickup information.
Make sure to choose the same location you submitted your print job to.
3.) Pick Up Your Print Job
Lastly, arrive during your scheduled pickup appointment and go to the Curbside Pickup tables. Look for a plastic filing container, your print job will be there inside an envelope labeled with your name.
Information to Keep in Mind
- Print jobs can be up to 25 pages and should be formatted and ready to print as-is.
- Be sure you use the same community library location to:
- Submit your print job
- Schedule your pickup appointment
- We do weekly maintenance on Saturday evenings where all outstanding print jobs are deleted. Please wait until Sunday or later to submit new print jobs.
- Materials submitted should comply with our Computer Use Policy.
- Printing sensitive or confidential information is done at your own risk. San Mateo County Libraries is not responsible for lost or misplaced prints.

Our library 3D Printers are back online and ready for your next Maker project. It's easier than ever to go from digital file to physical model, just follow these three easy steps.

Steps to Schedule
1.) Schedule
Select a location below to schedule a 2-hour printing time. Once you select a location, you’ll be taken to a list of available equipment. Select an available 3D printer.
2.) Submit File
During the scheduling process, you’ll be asked to submit a link to your 3D object file. You are free to use any of these services: Tinkercad, opens a new window, Thingiverse, opens a new window, YouMagine, opens a new window.
You’ll also have the opportunity to tell us about your 3D object so we know how to prepare it. We will review the file, slice it, and contact you if we have any questions.
3.) Pick Up
Our goal is to have your 3D object ready for Curbside Pickup at the end of your 2-hour printing time. If there are any issues or the item will be delayed, we will contact you.
When your item is ready, it will be located on the Curbside Pickup tables wrapped in paper and labeled with your last name, first initial, and the last four digits of your phone number.
Information to Know
Requirements to start printing your 3D object:
- Must be 13 years or older and live in San Mateo County.
- Have a valid library card that begins with "29041."
- Have a design file that meets our 3D Printer Online Agreement Guidelines.
- Provide us as much information as you can about your 3D object.
3D Printer Specifications:
Ultimaker 2+ printer with extra-wide .8mm nozzles. We've upgraded our 3D printers to print with an extra-wide .8mm nozzle. This means each layer is larger, stronger, and prints complete faster. Some small details under .8mm are not supported. We use PLA plastic. In order to limit handling equipment, we are not supporting custom color selection at this time

- The Library's 3D Printers are not permitted to create material that is prohibited by local, state, or federal law or in violation of intellectual property rights.
- Obscene or otherwise inappropriate prints are not allowed.
- Use of our equipment does not imply endorsement by San Mateo County Libraries.
- The Library has priority use of the equipment and may change or cancel reservations at any time.
- The Library reserves the right to place any limitations on use of its resources.
- The Library cannot guarantee model quality or stability, confidentiality of designs, or specific delivery times.

How do you get stitching? We’re glad you asked! We’ve made the Grab and Sew reservation process easy. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Must be 18 years or older and live or work in San Mateo County.
- Have a valid library card that begins with “29041.”
- Complete a waiver before borrowing the sewing machine (available in the booking form).
- Visit the Grab and Sew reservation page for the locations listed below to get started:
After your booking has been made, library staff will coordinate with you to pick up a machine during Curbside Service hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM - 4 PM, except during holiday closures.

Get Inspired With CreativeBug
Looking for project ideas? Access CreativeBug, one of our free online resources for cardholders that provides instructional videos, free patterns, and more! CreativeBug's helpful videos include tutorials and multi-part classes for beginners to seasoned crafters alike. Check out some of these sewing projects to inspire you! Book-A-Bike Is Back!
In addition to Bike to Your Library Day, our Book-A-Bike service will be resuming with a new loan period. Bikes will now be loaned for one week. That’s right, 7 days of unlimited bike use! As of now, this service is available at the Belmont Library only. Borrowing and returning will take place near the amphitheater of the Belmont Library.
How to Book-A-Bike:
How do you qualify to borrow a bike? We’re glad you asked! Here’s what you’ll need:

After your booking has been made, library staff will coordinate with you to make a pick-up reservation at the Belmont Library. Upon your arrival to borrow the bicycle, our staff will use a contactless process to provide you with all the necessary components; this will happen near the entrance of the Belmont Library amphitheater.

Our Fleet
With an eye for easy-to-ride, reliable bikes, we purchased a fleet of four low-maintenance bicycles. Many of the bike’s components, including a carbon drive belt, three-speed internal gear hub, and flat-free tires, should ensure a smooth ride for patrons and less maintenance for staff. Other accessories include a helmet with a GoPro mount, a basket for cargo, bike light and charging cable, bike lock, bike bell, and first aid kit.
